Car seat installation??

So I’m 34 weeks and some change now and have a scheduled c- section in about 4 and a half weeks. Not that it usually matters but baby has been measuring ahead for my last 2 appointments. 
Anyway, I’m in process of packing my hospital bag but I’m just curious when everyone will be installing their car seats..

My husband installed ours after I had the baby, before we were discharged from the hospital.

We have one with a base, and also want to get it checked out by a professional. They only do that at certain times, so depending on their schedule that’s how early we’ll install. Like someone mentioned, if God forbid we get into an accident before the baby gets here, we’ll only have to get the base replaced which isn’t a huge expense.

not installing till we go to hospital. but it's sitting ready and waiting by the door. I'm also having a scheduled c section. if I happen to go into labor we will grab the car seat on the way out the door or my SO will go back home and get it while me and baby are recovering. it seems silly to install it before hand. in case you get in a wreck. not even the base. my SO practiced installing it by watching YouTube so we're fully prepared. just not putting it in the car.

Do you have an infant carrier with a base or a convertible car seat? Also how comfortable are you with your ability to properly install the seat? Most car seats have to be replaced after any car accident, even minor fender benders, so keeping the seat in the car for a long time before baby comes will leave that car seat at risk longer in the event you are in an accident. It would suck to have to replace a brand new seat before the baby is even born. If you have an infant carrier, you could install the base early  (36 weeks or so) and leave the actual seat in the house til it's time to go. That way if you're in an accident, you'd only replace the base. If you're really comfortable with how to install your seat properly, you could theoretically wait til very close to your due date. I just wouldn't suggest that if you aren't familiar with the seat because you may be in a hurry to install then.

I'm going to have mine waiting by the door and wait until I'm in labor. If, heaven forbid, that carseat is in an accident before baby gets here then it is no longer good. And car seats are expensive. So my plan is to take it to the hospital and install it before we leave. There is plenty of time between deliveey/going home. Also, I've seen some people suggest just installing the base, so if something happens all you have to replace is the base.
