Is 13 too young !?

I'm 13 and I'm considering taking the pill for controlling my acne and other reasons. Most of the time my skin is very clear but at least every month I get a terrible spread of breakouts on my face. A lot of people tell me I'm to young to take the pill but my parents are okay with it.

I started taking the pill when I went off to college when I was 18 for my acne. The first brand I was on made me a crazy, psycho, moody, depressed, BITCH. And the second brand wasn’t any better. Neither of the 2 cleared up my face and over the course of taking them I gained 60 pounds in a year (I know it was the pills because I was playing softball the entire year and constantly working out and eating healthy). These types of things don’t happen to everyone, but keep in mind that they absolutely can happen to you. I finally went to a dermatologist and my face is CLEAR, despite my acne scars which will probably never go away. As for your age, you’re not too, too young. Just do your research, as well as your parents.

You want to go on the pill for acne and your parents are okay with it? Then I don't see why not. A lot of bc are helpful for acne. 
Just make sure to ask lots of questions before you go on it. Most people just go on birth control and have no idea what they are taking and how it's supposed to effect them. But if it's what you want, go for it!

If your parents are ok with it and your ok with it, don't worry about it. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions. What I will recommend for you, if your not already sexually active, take the pill for a couple years then don't use it for a year. It helps give your uterus a 'break' if you will. Although if you are sexually active or you meet someone in a couple years I would think it would be ok to continue the pill. Both my sister's started the nexplanon, which I don't recommend, at about 13, my oldest sister has had it for 9 years and they are telling her now that she should reconsider getting it reinserted because she will be less likely to have children the longer she has it. It's always a touchy subject at that age because you're still developing and will continue to develop until you're in early adulthood. A lot of times girls that age ergo have a period have really irregular periods, or in your case acne, which is why they are put on birth control in the first place so it's not uncommon that girls your age get in birth control. Sorry about the book I just wrote, but talk to your doctor if you have more questions that's what they're there for if they seem judgmental for whatever reason talk to your parents about getting a new doctor they seem reasonable. Don't ever feel ashamed about questions you have.

I've had the implant, nex, for a few weeks and it hasn't given me any acne, and has lightened my period. If your parents are okay with it, I think it's something you should consider. Taking pills is probably a favorable decision for your age, and in a few years you can get the implant. When and if you become sexually active in the future, this is also a plus. Highly recommended.

I went on bc around the same age. my reason was severe cramps. it did work.I would talk with your doc and if they think that is the best route I would try it. but there are a lot of side effects...which might not out weigh the benefits.

Most birth control pills are dermatologist approved acne treatments if your parents are okay with it go for it

There are many great acne medications that your doctor can prescribe without the need to get on birth control from now(a combo of certain antibiotics ⋛/creams). I recommend starting off in that route first. I’ve seen miracles happen with on a couple of my friends when they spoke to their doctor and went for the medication treatment option over adding hormones. Good luck!
