How to use spermicide?

I'm spending this weekend at my new boyfriends house, I really love him and we're planning to have sex... I need to make sure I'm covered with birth control, since I'm not currently on the pill or have anything in place like an IUD, I told him we need to use both condoms and spermicide... he agreed and we're gonna go to the drugstore near his house, he's never used spermicide and neither have I (he is my first!) and I know it goes inside me, what's a good kind to get that's easy to use and how do I put it in? Does it work with all condoms or only non lubricated ones (I'm allergic to latex so my options are limited)?
