Baby shower ?

Question

Is it rude to not open presents while at your baby shower?? I would take them home and make sure to write down who got me what and send out thank you cards. I haven’t been to a baby shower in forever so I’m not sure how it’s done. I just don’t want to come off as rude.

I personally think it’s rude. Your guests go out of their way to get you a gift that they are probably just as excited about as you are. I would hate to go to a shower and not see the expression on your face when you open the gift. That’s half the fun of going to showers!

have the invitations say it's a "Naked Shower", where the gifts aren't wrapped. it goes a LOT quicker and saves so much paper! 🤗

No, I don't think it's rude. What's rude is them expecting you to open the gift, just to see your reaction or if you like it. That isn't the point - to pat yourself on the back for a gift well given? They are giving you a gift to be kind & generous. What you do with it after that is up to you.

I don’t think it’s rude at all, not sure if it’s just my family but we never open presents infront of guests. To us it’s actually rude of us to open gifts infront of the guests and it’s as if we’re trying to show off how many things we got. But that’s just my family!

Personally I find the opening gifts bit to be the worst part of a shower, so I would be glad if that was skipped.

I don’t think it’s rude. The shower is to celebrate the life you’re bringing into the world. Presents would be the last thing on my mind. I actually plan on not opening them in front of guests and doing like you said. Opening at home, making a list, and sending thank you cards. I mean you don’t open presents at a wedding in front of everyone...and not everyone opens gifts at/during birthday parties. I already feel awkward being the center of everyone’s attention. Having to be front and center opening gifts...just thinking about it gives me anxiety.

Up to you. I did at my first shower but my second I ran out of time and by the time I got around to it people were wanting to leave because time got away from us. I always feel like you should open them in front of people but if you run out of time then make sure to write down what you get and thank everyone afterwards

I think you should read your crowd. I joined a friend of mine who had kids to another kids birthday party at a public venue and that's when I found out that apparently now a days kids don't open their presents at the party like we did when I was a kid. I've got some old school southern family that would probably be offended if I don't open at my shower, but if you're among friends I don't think it would be rude, especially if your husband/partner isn't going to attend for a women only shower. You could always get away with saying that you want the opportunity to open the gifts together with him... I'm terrible at showing reactions when I open gifts, even if I love it so I WISH I didn't have to open gifts all eyes on me!

We all like to say how they are a celebration of the baby but to me, a shower is about showering the mom to be with gifts, otherwise it would make more sense to do something after the baby is born. I opened them, said thank you, and also sent thank you cards. It might depend on where you live, I know a lot of people overseas are unfamiliar with showers, but where I live it would be considered rude.
