Caught my bf going through my phone. Red Flag?

I never go through his phone but he seems to always take mine and go through it sometimes. It does bother me and I tell him I don’t go through his phone, he responds with “I have nothing to hide.” I told him I’ve done nothing to make him think I would cheat or be sneaky. I told him I respect his privacy and he should respect mine and trust me.  Is this a sign of insecurity or controlling behavior?

Has he been cheated on by a passed relationship? It could mean he’s insecure...but usually there was a situation to bring that insecurity up. If you’ve given him nothing to be insecure about or suspect shadiness...it could be that he is cheating on you. It’s not always true, but many people say cheaters often become paranoid that you will cheat on them too. Weird but it happens!

I never understand this argument. if my fiance wants my phone? have at it! you won't find anything. and with my experience from past relationships if I want your phone? I don't see the issue. and if he's freaking out I'd see that as suspicious. its not a diary.. its a phone.

sometimes people are just nosy. but could be cuz of something from the past. it's ok to be open. my bf can open mine with his fingerprint and vice versa. not that he ever needs to look, but if he wants to he can

My husband and I have the same passcode for our phones. We share with no issues, we both have the “I have nothing to hide” attitude. We have been a couple over 16 years... so maybe it’s because we were already a couple before smartphones existed? And once you share a Nokia you just keep sharing? Maybe your Boyfriend is more curious because it bothers you when he does go through it. Making him think you are hiding something.

i think he might just be doing it because he’s insecure and maybe wants some reassurance about you not cheating, however i would talk to him about it and ask him specifically why

If it bothers you then put your foot down. By claiming that you may have something to hide is disrespectful to you. 
He may just be curious but express how it looks from your perspective, which is that he is looking to catch you out and thus doesn't trust you. Maybe he doesn't recognise that this is how it looks and makes you feel. 
If he blatantly doesn't care about this and genuinely is trying to catch you out then he is being controlling and in that case you should put him in his place.

I always go through my bf's phone but he never even really touches mine. For me, I'm just really curious and love fingering cute pics of him from the past or what-have-you. And I feel like I know more avout him when I do sometimes. I also agree with other comments that it might be insecurity. Just talk it out with him!
