Lesion on cervix

So today I got a call back from my doctor about the pap I had over 2 weeks ago. The test came back abnormal and there's a possibility of a lesion being on my cervix. I'm terrified. My mom said it's fine and I shouldn't worry about it but something about there possibly being a cancerous tumor on my cervix makes me uneasy. maybe that's just me though. Anyone else get an abnormal pap back? I just need reassurance while I wait on the appointment for my colposcopy. I'm 24 btw just in case that makes a difference.
