Induction process?

Can someone tell me how they induce you and how the process works? 
Im getting induced tomorrow and I’m just trying to be prepared for it

a few different ways are possible, it depends on your doctor's choice and what's already going on with your body. if you are already somewhat dilated they may just go straight for pitocin induction and/or breaking your water. if you aren't dilated at all they usually have you come in and start you on one of two medications cytotec or cervidil.  cytotec is a pill they either insert in your vagina or you swallow ( Also depends on your doctor). cervidil is a tampon like device with medicine that they insert in your vagina. with any of these methods they will eventually break your water for you if it does not break on its own. you will be on continuous monitoring to monitor the babys heart beat and your contraction patterns. -I am a RN and I used to work in labor and delivery. other hospitals may do it differently but that is how we did it.

It’s different for everyone but I was induced on a Friday morning at 8am and my son didn’t come until Sunday morning. They started me on  Pitocin but it didn’t do much. I stayed at 2 cm for all of Friday and post of Saturday. They upped it as much as they could the  Friday night they used Cytotec which helped a little. Saturday night they were doing pitocin again and it stated helping more once they broke my water.

eat food before you go! you will most likely be in a lot of pain later and not want to eat. and if you get the epidural you will feel alot better but then you will be so hungry if you didn't eat before. lol. because once you get the epidural you cannot have any food. that's the one thing I remember from being induced. ha

I’d be leery of agreeing to Cytotec...in the US, using it for induction is actually off label use (aka it’s not FDA approved for that purpose) and it carries greater risks than other medications. It’s cheaper, that’s why a lot of hospitals have started to use it. Just an FYI.
