I’m going to start this by saying this: BEING DEAF ISNT A BAD THING!

I am proud to be part of the Deaf community and culture (yup we have a culture) and I’m tired of people talking about Deaf people as if we have a disease.

I saw a post today of a baby that was given cochlear implants so they could hear. It’s a very controversial topic so when a Deaf person saw it, they of course got mad. They expressed their disappointment that a person would allow their small infant to be put under brain surgery so that MAY (because it doesn’t always work) hear. Hearing responses back saying that Deaf people are stupid or retarded. That we have a problem that needs to be fixed. We are NOT A PROBLEM.

Deaf people are proud. Deaf people are not disabled. I highly advise everyone to become more aware of Deaf culture because I’m SICK of people talking ignorantly about things they don’t understand.
