When your toddler doesn’t eat lunch/ dinner

What do you do when your toddler refuses to eat lunch/ dinner.

I wish I had an answer to this.. one of my friend's daughter is the same way.. she keeps trying every 30 minutes and it doesn't work, she ends up giving her snacks.. ( I honestly think she's not doing it right, because the girl knows now to not eat long enough and she gets snacks). our daughter fortunately,  eats anything and everything we give her, ESPECIALLY veggies.. (yuck!! lol. I hate veggies but I am happy she loves them). she would happily sit in the high chair and eat anything u give her..

It depends. If it's something like she may be teething, I will probably make her a smoothie and sneak in some veggies (spinach, etc.), yogurt, whatever...

My girl has been refusing most meals. She much prefers to graze. I try to feed her in her high chair at mealtime, but if she refuses I wait a bit and offer her healthy snacks while she runs around. Her pediatrician told us that at this age they just want to play and explore and they won't eat if they aren't hungry. I just make sure I ask her often if she needs food and try to provide a variety of different things. Some days she'll love something and the next hate it. I was told it's all normal and to continue what we're doing since she's still gaining weight properly and she's healthy. I think you should do whatever works for you and your baby.

I will say it depends on if it's something she's had and enjoyed in the past or if it's something new. Something new sometimes takes a couple of times to get used to the taste or texture so I do offer something familiar to go along with the meal. I don't want to push her. If it's something she usually eats and enjoys then I figure she's probably just not that hungry. As long as she's had at least one good meal that day and had her milk I try not to stress it. I've read that toddlers are much better at self policing their hunger/caloric needs if left to do so than adults are.

I try to ensure every meal has at least one thing I know she likes. If I see her ignoring even that I just push milk and make sure the next snack or meal is within two hours. Sometimes they aren’t hungry but I’m not in the business of forcing food or serving up alternative meals. My daughter doesn’t eat much at dinner time most nights. It just doesn’t seem to be her preferred time to eat a lot.

from what I read, toddlers won't starve themselves. some days they eat everything in sight some days they eat 2 pieces and they are done. I try not to push it. if he doesn't want to eat what I have him I will usually try one other thing. if still no, than i just leave him be until the next meal.
