Weird birthday with(out) BF

So a few days ago I had birthday. No big deal, but I still feel sad about it. My BF left to go to town and was gone for several hours.

I played games, got dressed up and suddenly there he was with all his family, unexpected. I don't like suprise visits because it can be messy in the flat and I feel ashamed to let others see it.

Anyway, his sisters come and mum and grandma (all of who I saw just once over the course of 2,5 years we are dating). I was on my way out, now stuck in my place. They left eventually, as did my BF who went to see a friend. so I was left alone again.

Later he came back and took me to dinner. I told him to surprise me and pick the restaurant himself. We ended up in a bar, me on a diet (health issues). The meal was good, but definitely not a place I expected. At this point I was sure he got me no present so I asked. And he told me he had an idea but there were no tickets (he wanted to take me to a show).

Now Im upset. I always spent weeks thinking and designing a gift for him and he got me nothing in return. He is well off so money is not an issue. He just couldn't be bothered to think of something.

Now am I shallow for being upset. Should I just move on and forget it eventhough it hurts he doesn't give a damn about me?
