My boyfriend choked me

So we’ve been together for 5 years. He’s never really put his hands on me. And just the other day he called me a cunt and choked me. I was slapping him trying to get him off of me. Well I stayed after that and he hit me again in my face today. Idk what to do I want to leave so bad but I have dogs with him and if I leave he won’t let me see them again and I’m so attached to them I have nothing. Also when I try to leave he pulls the suicidal thing telling me he’s just gonna kill himself if I leave 😔😰
