How many of you ladies have received any testing like Amniocentesis? FTM & im worries about any procedures like that or which are actually necessary.

I wasn't at risk for anything so I opted to not get any of the genetic testing and just getting the routine prenatal visits and anatomy scan. Everything is optional with the blood testing where I'm at and I've seen a lot of people get flats positives and worry their entire pregnancies and everything end up being ok. Just my opinion and choice though.

Amniocentesis is generally done if you have specific worries. In our case it would have been done if the ultrasound had indicated a higher than normal risk for trisomy, but not as part of standard prenatal testing. 
IME most fetal tests are optional and voluntary, even the anatomy scan, although most people want to see their babies at least once!

i only do non invasive screenings (blood draw/finger prick, ultasound etc) amniocentesis is very invasive, and only done if 1st screenings indicate an abnormality, and thats only if you choose to do further testing/screening. if its non invasive, and you may get an extra ultrasound to see baby, why not do the screening to help prepare you etc. if anything does come back, also things like spina bifida can potentially be corrected during pregnancy, but if were say something like down syndrome, nothing can be changed, so would the results change your mind about wanting the pregnancy/baby? if not, why go on further, potentially dangerous/risky testing if it doesnt matter one way or another.

An amnio is what put my mom into labor at 24.5 weeks with my sisters and only one of them survived - they didn’t put the vacuum on the first time they tried to get a sample and then did it again and transmitted strep b

in Canada there is FTS offered to every pregnant woman.. it's blood work and an ultrasound. I opted for it without researching anything and the test came back positive with a 1 in 350 chance my baby has downs syndrome. after researching this specific test, it's only 80% accurate and you can even get a false negative. With this information I don't think an invasive procedure is worth the risk. I'm still going to meet with a genetic counsellor to take a more accurate blood test but the stress this has caused is not worth it.
