Wrong condoms

Ok so I got some ribbed condoms to spice things up a little, I was really excited to show my boyfriend but he was less then impressed. I've always talked about getting some and he seemed fine with it so I was unsure why he got so mad and took it so personally. He thinks I'm suggesting that he 'mustn't be enough' for me and he's now really annoyed at me and I don't know what to do. Part of me what's to tell him to get over it, but then the other half understands that he hasn't got the most confidence and I'm the only partner he's had.
