What are you ladies opinion on using a family members name

What are you ladies opinion if I have a girl I’m naming her Ashlyn Dakota. The thing is the Lyn part in the name is the middle name of her sister that was born stillborn 3 years ago and Dakota is in remembrance of her cousin Dakota who was born stillborn about 4 years ago. My boyfriend said to ask his mom if we can use the name. Well I did and she refuses to answer back. I’m very set on that name for a girl.

In this case I would ask and since she’s not answering you back I wouldn’t use it.

I wouldn't use it! A person that use to be my sister in laws friend named her daughter the exact name of my sister in laws stillborn girl first and middle name and it was such a horrible thing to do!!!

So I'm not good at flowery language so this may come out a bit rough. I don't think I would ever name my child after someone else's dead kid. That seems like a lot of pain waiting to happen for the person who lost a baby. It also just feels weird to me to name your unborn child after someone else's stillborn. Just my two cents.

I feel like you should definitely get a yes or no from the family member before deciding to use that name, even if your heart is in the right place trying to honor them. 
If we have a boy, we are naming him after my older brother who passed away when I was younger. I asked my mom a while ago how she would feel if I ever had a boy. My mom personally thought it was a sweet honor in his memory. But it could have gone the other way - it could have been upsetting for her and I would have gone another way with names.
I’m a bit confused though - why would you ask boyfriends mother? If it was a cousin, wouldn’t you ask whoever was the parent?

my daughter's name is Olivia Rose. Olivia from her great grandmother on her daddy's side and Rose from her great grandma on my side. I love it, it sounds vintage to me :)

That is a tricky one. Is that something that would cause a family civil war so to speak? Then also consider is using that name more important than potentially damaging a relationship with a family member?
