Pay difference.

#eyeroll

Here’s the situation. You are a woman, you work for a company for 8 years, with 4 years prior experience. Your staring rate was $12.25/hour (entry level for the position at the time) and you’ve been given annual merit raises so you make $17/hr now. You refer someone to your department, they are a male and they have 1.5 years experience. They are hired and disclose they will be making $17.25/hr. (Note, you did not ask, they were just very excited and shared, also, they did not negotiate their pay, this was what they were offered) Every year you are required take a web learning course to refresh you on the company policies, it specifically talks about the company’s policy discouraging discussing your pay rate with other employees which you just reviewed the week before the offer for employment.

So what do you do?
