3 in 1 vs convertible car seat ?

What’s the difference ? If I’m getting a stroller with an infant car seat with in for when baby is first born what would be my next car seat ?

The infant seat is useful for newborns because babies fall asleep in the car and you don’t wanna take the baby out of the big ass converting car seat. 
Now the converting seat for me personally was was awesome once my son was about 8 months because he was soooooo heavy for the infant seat. Couldn’t do it anymore. So he was in the converted facing backwards still.

If you get an infant seat, the next one after that you would need is a convertible car seat. Your baby needs to stay rear facing until at least 2  
There are different types of convertibles. You have the regular ones that do rear facing and then you can turn forward facing after age 2 with the 5 point harness. 
A 3-in-1 is a convertible car seat that rear faces, forward faces with the 5 point harness, and then you can take the 5 point harness off and your child can just use it with a seat belt (usually around age 6-7). The last option is also called a highback booster. 
A 4-in-1 does all that the previous car seat I mentioned does, plus you can take the back off and it can be a backless booster. 
Most 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 car seats expire before or shortly after your child is able to use the booster feature, so they aren’t really all that practical. You’ll likely need to buy a booster anyway unless you have a very large child.
