Can your water break and you not have contractions?

Last night I was laying in bed and I felt like I peed myself. I went to the bathroom and cleaned up and then went back to bed. I only had maybe 1-2 contractions after it happened. It was enough to soak my pjs but it didn’t soak my bed. I’m not having contractions at all and I just had another episode where I thought I peed but it was just clear, watery discharge.

How far are you? Your contractions should start a little more after your water breaks. If your water did break though, you need to go to the hospital. They will keep you and augment or induce your labor. You are at an increased risk for infection and it’s recommended to deliver within 24-36 hours after your water breaks.

With our first son my water broke and I didn’t have a single contraction until two and a half hours later.

Usually after a bit your body will pick up contractions if it’s truly your water breaking. I work in an OB office & we hear patients talk about this allllll the time. We do exams & it’s just discharge, and likely urine. Sometimes baby’s position will be right on top of the bladder, causing small episodic leaks of “water”. If you’re worried, call your OB doctor but I wouldn’t really worry about it unless you start having noticeable, timed contractions. ☺️💛

I’m still not having any contractions and I have a pad on but it’s completely dry. I have a dr appointment this morning so unless I start having timed contractions I think I’ll just wait until my appointment. I’m 38 weeks 2 days scheduled for a csection Monday. I’ve been passing large amounts of mucus since Friday night. Like I said I have a dr appointment this morning and since I’m scheduled for C-section Monday I think I’m just gonna wait for my doctors appointment this morning and let her know what happened. Unless I start having serious contractions that I can time I’m not TOO concerned seeing as how if it is my water once my dr. checks at my appointment this morning they’ll likely just go ahead and take me and for my C-section so I won’t be running the risk of getting some serious infection because I waited over 24 hours or whatever after my water broke to do anything

My waters broke with no contractions but there was NO doubt it was my waters. It wasn’t a leak and unsure lol it was multiple gushes or water like I was throwing a bucket of water out my vagina over and over again haha.

You’ll continue to leak if it’s your water. Also, smell it. If it’s your water there will be no smell. When I doubt, go get it checked out. If it’s your water, you’ll be admitted asap.

Sounds like your water broke. Put on a pad and if its soaked then get checked.
