At what point is it “acceptable” to get a promise ring?

my ex got me a promise ring after 4 months of dating. I don’t think there’s a specific time, I think it all depends on how you feel about each other. (We also didn’t think that a promise ring had to mean that we’d get married one day. He saw it as a promise to treat me right for the length of our relationship, however long it may be.)

Whenever. As long as you're not going to be worried about people finding out. If you're going to splurge on jewelry, it should be something you can show off. I still haven't told family that I'm technically engaged (he proposed during spring of my HS senior year)  and it's been about 4 years since then. I hate hiding it. I hope that whenever anyone gets bling, you can be proud of it :)
