black face question

AMR • on a weight gaining and yoga journey... one day we will be a family of four 🙏🌈

my husband is a professional ballet dancer. he will be in off the wall, a ballet show based on the paintings of an African American artist, he's paintings show the history of African Americans. he's white, blonde hair. he is one of the few white performers as this is about POC, but he is a strong dancer and they needed him in the piece. but now they are asking him to get a spray tan. I'm not comfortable with that as spray tans haven't been proven to be safe. I also find this uncomfortable because it seems like borderline black face? the company is paying for it and his contract basically says he has to do what the artistic director requires for performances. :/ I know spray tans aren't black face, but it's the reason for the spray tan that makes it weird to me. they want him to blend in, which is understandable, but it seems dishonest and inappropriate to me.
