It should always be a thing. You shouldn’t leave someone high and dry. They deserve to know someone is leaving regardless of how long you’ve known them.

im sure they wont mind too much and will probably appreciate you leaving before they invest too much time i training you. and since it hasnt been long, they can just call up the next best candidate. just have a conversation with them and theyll understand

The two week notice gives that employer time to find your replacement. So yes, it’s very necessary. Doesn’t matter if you want to use them as a reference or not.

We had an intern work once for a single day. She was totally honest and said the job wasn't for her and she didn't want to continue. It was great all around because we were able to hire and train someone else before the season took off. I would never want to wait 2 weeks and train someone only to lose them later. Though perhaps it would be polite of them to offer?

Depends on the job. 
If it’s something that requires very little training such that you’re an asset from day one, yes give notice.
If it’s a job where you know nothing going in and the first weeks/months are training then no notice needed. You aren’t actually being productive yet and are more of a drain on resources at this point.

If it’s only been a few days, they’d probably prefer if you go ahead and quit. Obviously, talk to them, don’t just no-show. But if you’re still training and we’re recently hired, a two week notice is unnecessary, because the two weeks would be spent training you for nothing. Plus, they already have the other candidates from when you were hired so they’re really not at much of an inconvenience, especially if they’ve been functioning with your position open for any amount of time prior to hiring you.

If you are still in training than no. Save the company money and quit.  If you are done with trading talk to your boss and see if they need you to stay.  I have worked places that need that two weeks and others that just say will you can finish the day if you want but you don’t have to.  My last job had months to find someone to replace me.  Told them when I was 3 months pregnant that I would be done before my baby come because I was going to be a stay at home.  Even give them a date in writing 2 months before hand. They still acted like they were surprised that I was leaving.

Where i live most jobs have a 3-6 month probation period in which they can fire you without reason... but that equally means you get to leave without reason as well. If its not working out on either end, you get to leave without fault to either parties 🤷🏻‍♀️ 
I would still give notice tho, unless it was an “emergency” (which i have done in the past, to take a last minute spot in classes i needed to take)

Probably not, because you're not going to ever use them as a reference having worked there a couple days. I would tell them I'm quitting in general, but you don't have to stay for 2 weeks. It'll just be wasted training.

I started a job(7.25/hr) and then a few days later was offered a job else where ($11/hr). I was to start the new job in a couple days so I went in to the old job the next day and told them I had found another job that paid much better and they understood. if I had sat around another 2 weeks I would have lost the new job. even if it weren't a question of losing the new job I would have still quit and gone to the new job cause why would I waste my time working for less $??
