Anyone else’s MIL never come see the baby?

She lives 10 minutes away and never comes to see her grandson which is strange since she was very involved in my pregnancy. She sees him MAYBE once every 2 months. I just don’t understand why she wouldn’t want to be involved? 
She has never offered to help us either. If we call her to ask to babysit for a few hours it seems like she always has an excuse (she’s going to play poker, going to Karaoke, etc.) so we stopped even trying. 
It just makes me so upset that he’s going to grow up not even knowing her.
Is anyone else dealing with a similar situation?

My In laws don’t come and visit and then complain that they haven’t seen him in a while. They know where we live. Worse is that now whenever we take the baby there he cries when his grandma holds him. I go back to work this week and she is supposed to watch him one day every other week. I’m hoping this improves things but obviously very nervous to leave him.

My mother in law literally lives 2 minutes away. I can see the back of their house from my kitchen window. 
We see her maybe twice a week at best!! She doesn’t work and never has and has no dependant children. 
I’ve learnt that some people just don’t want to make the effort of having a relationship. Which is funny because she still wants to babysit my son, so she can have alone time with him. No chance!!

My FIL has only seen the baby once since she was born. And only because my boyfriend’s sister came with him. I know it really hurts my guy, especially when my dad sees her almost every day. He didn’t even see her around Xmas. It’s a challenging relationship.

not my MIL but my own father , you get to a point were u realise they will be around if they truly want.  I won't begg anyone to visit my kid . and it'll hurt them more when the baby recognizes faces and he doesn't recognize hers . my daughter knows faces and u can see it in his face he gets sad that my daughter doesn't recognize him but it's THEIR OWN FAULT . DONT BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER IT THEY ARE THE ONES MISSING OUT

I dont have one, but my FIL has seen our second maybe a handful of times and he lives literally 15 mins away. He’s not exactly a star father and never was a great parent to my husband growing up so I’m not too shocked. It’s just irritating when we do see him and he’ll makes comments about seeing our kids. 🙄 You have a phone and a car, figure it out.
