Coconut oil makes the skin dark?

I have been using pure virgin coconut oil on my African-American’s baby skin for a week now and I have noticed that she is getting darker. My baby is three months old and has a very fair skin complexion. Has anyone had this experience with using coconut oil?

When babies are born they don't have all their skin pigmentation and it slowly comes in over time. It's not the oil justher skin getting it's true color.

It’s not the coconut oil, people of color are born lighter than the color they will be later on in their life. Look at Blue Ivy’s baby photos, people SWORE it was a conspiracy and it was a different baby!

It’s not the coconut oil. Babies are usually fairer when they are first born because the melanin in infants isn’t fully developed, her skin may even continue to get darker. Coconut oil would only hydrate her skin and make it look less dry so sometimes that can me darker because of the glossy effect but that wouldn’t alter her skin tone. Her skin color is just developing more

i never had an issue with darkening skin but my sister when she was a baby it took 6 months before all her pigmentation came in shes black and puerto rican and wss born with light skin
