Is 13 years old too young for birth control?? Help please!!

I really want to get on birth control, but I’m 13 (almost 14 tho) so I’m not sure if I’m too young. What age did you guys start birth control? I’m desperate for opinions!

Even if you were not planning on having sex, it is not too young. Birth control does more than just protect against pregnancy. It can regulate your period, etc.

I was 15. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with starting at 13. My friend got on it at 13 and she’s a Mormon so she definitely wasn’t having sex lol.

I wouldn’t condone my child getting on birth control at such a young age but if you’re sexually active already or considering it than i’d say...better safe than sorry. 
I secretly started birth control at 14 so I don’t want be a hypocrite I just want you to be safe about it. I did that without my parents knowledge and I got it from a place that had no clue what my medical history was. I ruined my cycle doing this. I recommend, if you are going to do this to make sure that you follow all the doctors instructions and still use condoms because birth control alone won’t protect you from STD’s. Please please please be safe and don’t do anything you really don’t want to. 
I personally regret using birth control so young. I’m having such a hard time now trying to conceive and I do think it’s in part because of how long I’d been using birth control in the first place. No one can tell you what to do at the end...but whatever you decide, please be cautious. Hugs to you. ❤️

It depends on why you want to start taking it. 
If it's just to prevent pregnancy, that's very responsible of you, but I also want to say don't let any guy pressure you into having "bareback"/"raw"/whatever you want to call it sex (without a condom) if you're not comfortable with that. Guys sometimes don't want to have to wear a barrier and want to cum inside you, but you have to make them earn it. Birth control will protect against pregnancy but it will not protect against STDs/STIs. 
Also be aware that hormonal birth control has lots of side effects. Some girls are more sensitive to hormones than others. Maybe I'm sensitive, but it made me suicidally depressed, moody, nauseous, bloated, tired all the time, and it completely killed my sex drive... which is ironic if that's the reason why you're taking it... get on birth control to have sex then end up losing all desire to have sex. 
When you start talking synthetic hormones, your body changes and alters the amount of natural hormones you produce to compensate. I'm not sure if it's a great idea to disrupt your body's hormone balance while you're still developing. However, birth control has other effects that may make it worthwhile if you have problems like very painful, heavy, irregular periods or acne. Actually, irregular periods and acne are both completely normal at your age. But b/c can help with certain conditions. 
Tell your doctor why you want to take it, any problems you may have, especially depression, blood-clotting disorders, or if you smoke. They will help you weigh the risks vs benefits and find a suitable method for your needs. ☺️

Since one of your comments says "I'm planning on having sex", then no you shouldn't GET on it, you should already be on it!! But, if you are wanting to have sex just bc your friends are or something,  then I highly suggest taking a step back, and thinking about it very thoroughly before going thru with it. My daughter is the same age and it terrifies me to think tbat she would have to ask on her period app versus coming to me. I know it's embarrassing to talk about with a trusted adult  (it doesn't have to be a parent) but if the subject is too embarrassing to bring up with an adult to talk about, that's a sure sign that you should wait a little longer. Just don't rush into something bc your friends are doing it and definitely don't rush bc of pressure from a guy.. this is your body, and 110% your choice WHEN YOU are ready!! And remember... it takes at least 1 full cycle to be fully protected.. and they are not 100%, so you can still get pregnant, esp if you don't take at the same time every day, if you miss a dose, if you are put on antibiotics for any reason.... research, read, ask questions and make sure that it's what YOU want..

I started at 12 for period regulation I was on the patch got raped at 13 and ended up pregnant had her at 14 so if you are starting in order to have sex make sure to have condoms as well
