Question about period & birthcontrol

Okay so I have been on birth control for over a year now. Recently I was really sick and didn’t take my hormone pills for about 5 consecutive days. I got my period this morning which is a week early. I’m guessing it’s because my body thinks I’m on my placebo pills because this is the usual time I would start if I were taking them opposed to hormonal pills. I thought the best thing to do would be to stay off them for my two remaining “placebo” days and then start my hormonal pills again.

Any suggestions?
