Anyone ever taken Provera?

I have been on my period for 37 days. My doctor told me to take Provera for 10 days. I have no experience with it. I’m terrified it’s going to make things worse. I have super heavy periods. And the last few cycles it’s been no period for 3 months and then a period for a solid 5-6 weeks. It’s been like this since I had my son 11 months ago. I’m not breast feeding, I never did. We tried birth control but it made me bleed heavier than what my doctor was comfortable with. My body is just screwed up!
