Clomid + IUI

Hi,

So today we did the IUI! They originally gave me 50mg of Clomid but I didn’t respond to it so a week later they upped it to 100mg and I took that for 5 more days. They did an ultrasound and blood work Monday and said everything looked good and I should ovulate soon, I had a large follicle on each ovary. Yesterday afternoon I got the positive ovulation test. So today I go in for the IUI. They told me it would be less uncomfortable than the HSG test, which wasn’t horrible but I definitely didn’t like the crampy feeling I got when they injected the dye.

Anyway, so normally when they use the speculum or do an ultrasound or anything they always put a little lube on it. Well since lube (unless it’s preseed, which they didn’t have) decreases sperm mobility they just put a little water in the speculum so it’s a little moist. Well let me tell you, clommids side effect of dryness was definitely one for me. Now I wasn’t bone dry but I definitely was nothing like I normally am during my “fertile window.” So initially there was a little more discomfort than usually associated but I was fine.

Well, getting that little catheter through my cervix is what they describe as going through a windee (spelling??) road that they have to curve through sometimes. Well, apparently mine was pretty windee because they just couldn’t get it through. And then they’re trying to adjust the speculum to get a better view/angle, which was really uncomfortable because it was slightly pulling on my vagina skin. After being super uncomfortable for what felt like forever (prolly 10-15 min) they take it all out and say we’re gonna give you a break and get the APRN for her to try.

So while they’re out of the room I’m texting my husband telling him how uncomfortable this is. He suggests I look at porn to get a little wetter 😂😂 so here I am, in a doctors office on this uncomfortable table looking at porn on mute and then they come back in and are getting all the things situated and I’m just secretly but awkwardly looking at porn so that this shit gets over with sooner so the little swimmers can get to my uterus!

Alas! The second time was MUCH faster and over within a few minutes, the speculum wasn’t as uncomfortable. So the swimmers got deposited where they needed to!

So moral of the story, if you have to get an IUI, bring some preseed and/or look or do whatever you gotta do to get horny so that it’s not as uncomfortable, especially if you have a windee cervix hole!
