Every time I try to use my plastic one, it hurts so bad even with lube, so I need a better choice.

Make sure whatever you use is both non-porous and body-safe. A lot of toys sold are made out of jelly or PVC that's softened, which is porous (which means bacteria can grow even if you clean it) and is often softened with phthalates, which can be toxic (it's not allowed in children's toys anymore), or uses other chemicals that can cause bad reactions in mucus membranes. 
So the materials that are safe are either solid, like plastic, glass or metal, or silicone, which can be made soft without additives and is aqua-phobic, so cannot harbor bacteria.
