Birth Story

Ariyanna

It’s been almost a month since I had my baby boy but I’m deciding to share now. I’ll make it as short as possible.

Earlier that day I woke up at noon and thought my bag of waters had a tear and I called the nurse line to ask and they told me to go in as soon as I could. I went the whole day thinking I was leaking and waiting for my ride so I could go In because I’m 15 I don’t have a license. My boyfriends mom finally showed up around 8 and we got to the hospital around 8:30. They triaged me for another 2 hours. First they tested me to see if I had a tear, I didn’t. They checked my cervix and said I was at a 4 and they offered to strip my membranes. I said yes because I was 38 weeks and two weeks before I was at a 3. So the doctor came in and stripped my membranes she said she wanted to keep me for an hour and see how my contractions are and if I dilate to 5 otherwise I would be sent home. An hour went by and I was a 5 1/2. They admitted me. My real doctor came in during that hour and I was already at a 6. I didn’t feel ANY contractions for my whole labor. I made it to 6 cm, she broke my water. That’s when I started to feel the contractions. I asked the nurse for any other medications before I decided to get an epidural. The nurse put me on fentanyl and it helped. I had 2 doses, one to help with the pain a first time and the second was right before my epidural so I wouldn’t feel them insert it (highly recommended if you hate the thought of needles). My epidural kicked in RIGHT away. About 30 minutes after I fell asleep. My nurse woke me up and said I was ready to push. I had my great grandmother, my best friend, my boyfriend, my mom, and my moms boyfriend with me. I had to wake everyone up and let them know. An hour later I started pushing... I pushed and pushed and pushed and my son wasn’t coming out. Finally his head came out but his shoulders got stuck. My mother was screaming, my doctor was screaming for another doctor to assist and I had nurses piling in. I was so exhausted I didn’t think anything was wrong everything was a blur to me. My doctor had her hands under his shoulders inside of me to grab him out because I later that night found out he had the cord wrapped around his neck. So anyway they hand me my baby at first right when he came out. Then they take him like normal to clean him off. While they were cleaning him my doctor stitched me up because I had a minor tear. I also pushed out my placenta and when my doctor got my placenta blood SPLASHED everywhere, all over the doctor, the walls across the room, my best friend, my boyfriend, my boyfriends mother, the nurses. I lost 1750 milliliters of blood. They handed me back the baby and a minute later I was feeling really sick I screamed at someone to take him and I ended up throwing up all over my boyfriend and my best friend and then fainted on the bed. The nurses had me up to oxygen, I was in tears I was so scared. I woke up 30 seconds later that day I was supposed to get a blood transfusion because I was extremely anemic and I had a massive hemorrhage. Two days later they discharged me, I didn’t end up getting a transfusion those 48 hours but I went home and the next two nights I started having extreme chills and I was flushed of color. The next morning after the first day I used the bathroom and my mom looked at me and she said I didn’t look right. I went into the kitchen to take meds and I turned the water on and I dot extremely dizzy and I was talking to my mom and all I remember was her screaming for my boyfriend I woke up on my couch and it turns out I blacked out and fainted in the kitchen. I had paramedics surrounding me. I had to go back to the hospital and they FINALLY gave me a blood transfusion because I fainted from low iron. I stayed at the hospital for another week! With a newborn and not being able to walk it was the hardest week of my life. I personally believe they should’ve gave me the transfusion while I was staying the first nights after my delivery but the nurse I had made the wrong call and sent me home anyway. I almost died and so did my son but thank god me and him are both perfectly healthy.

He is 1 month old on Friday and he’s absolutely beautiful ❤️!

He was 9lbs and 7 oz!! He was a big boy! And I’m 15. Everyone was so proud of me for delivering vaginally to a big baby at this young age.
