a bit scared and just want to be safe

so my last period was about 3 weeks ago. after i got off of it, i started the pill. my boyfriend came inside of me a week after i was on the pill. we have sex once or twice a week. lately my boobs have hurt a lot. and today we had sex and an hour later i had some spotting. Ive read that being on birth control alone can have these side effects but i am still nervous and don’t know if i should get a pregnancy test just in case. Penny for your thoughts?
