flat head syndrome

Jessie

So my 4 month old has developed a slight flat spot in the back left side of his head. I was told by his doctor that if it's not better by his 6 month appoinment that he would need fitted for a helmet. She told me to try and reposition his head or play with him on his right side, but the problem is that he's not usually on his back during the day for long. He usually naps on my lap and when he is sitting in something it's a soft baby beanbag chair that I feel doesn't affect his flat spot because of how soft it is. However he sleeps about 6-8 hours at night and he always lays his head right on that flat spot. I've tried moving it before I go to sleep myself but it wakes him up, and obviously I can't do anything when I'm asleep. Has anyone else delt with this problem and if so, how did you to about preventing it? Is there some kind of pillow or something I can get to keep him from turning his head that way?
