Is MBA worth it?

I’m married, have a 9 year old, remarried over one year ago, and TTC. I have a Bachelors degree in Business and got a job as an analyst in healthcare a couple years ago. I’ve been told from the beginning that I need an MBA to promote in the future.

I make $82k now. My husband and I have $24k in savings, $14k left on one car loan, a mortgage with $330k left, and no credit card debt. We like to travel a few times a year. The MBA program is 17 months and $37k. My company will cover $2k, and I would try to find scholarships if I can, but I’m a married white lady with good household income, so probably not much out there for me.

I’ve been told by a few people that the promotions they got shortly after getting their MBA will pay it off quickly, but promotions are no guarantee.

I think we could pay in cash since we have savings and can save $2-3k a month if we are spending consciously. The classes are paid for in pieces, so we could make it work.

The thing is... we want to retire early and move abroad. We need to maximize our earnings and minimize our spending in the mean time. He had large student loans that we recently paid off so racking up another $35k for me to MAYBE make more makes me worried and feel guilty. He’s extremely supportive either way.

We’ve been trying to get pregnant for almost a year and would go so far as IVF if we needed to. The next session for school starts in August and I’m having laparoscopic surgery in late April. I’m torn about the cost (if we did get pregnant, then I’d have to reduce our monthly savings by the cost of daycare), and the schedule and timing. If I got pregnant and it overlapped, I’d be fine with classes and stuff but it’s an accelerated executive MBA program so classes are only 4 weeks each. After delivery, not sure what I’d do.

Is it even worth it?
