cry it out method for 2mth old?

is it ok that i let my 2mth old cry it out? my ob suggested me to do so, that way they wouldnt be too clingy. id admit it that there was once where i let him cry it out after feedings, burping, and changing diaper. i feel bad about it too :/

No. No no no. Look up fourh trimester, look up any info on a newborn. I held my son CONSTANTLY for three months straight. I still would NEVER leave him to cry and this kid is so independent! All he wants is to explore wherever we are. The store, outside, our cupboards, EVERYTHING! He is not clingy AT ALL!! Holding your baby does not create a clingy baby. Your doctor is wrong. There are so many studies that say holding your infant creates secure attachments and leads to independent children, while leaving such a young infant to cry creates a clingy child because they are afraid if they aren't with you, you will leave. You can Google secure attachments, if you would like to see the studies themselves.

I wouldn’t. Crying it out is about having them learn to self soothe. A two month old doesn’t have the ability to do that yet. And honestly you OB sounds a little whacky. At that age they really should to be tended to somewhat quickly, so they develop a secure attachment. I’d switch OB’s if I were in that situation TBH.

I am not a fan of Cry it out method at any age, this article explains why (you can google for the full article if interested) but my feelings on it aside I think 2 months is far to young at any rate.

Why don’t you get a sleep consultant? Try sleep training method instead. CIO is usually from 6+ months

You can’t spoil a 2 month old, you are all he knows.  I know it’s hard but I think sleep training should start later. The only thing I do that is “training” is avoid rocking or white noise and put my baby down when she is almost asleep so she falls asleep on her own.

You have to find what works for your family. But you may want to consider that 2 month olds don't yet have the ability to self-soothe - this starts at around 4 months. And your little baby may be "clingy" because you are his or her home! Trust your instincts!

Keeping in mind that you did nothing wrong by trying what your OB suggested (as we expect them to have the correct knowledge), 2 months old is too young. I just took a sleep seminar with a consultant certified by the Canadian Pediatric Society and at this age it is expected that you "assist" them to sleep  (soother, cuddles, vibrating chair, baby wearing, etc.). They need you for security and to develop healthy attachment so you are right to trust your instincts and do what baby needs from you. Once they're a bit older the CIO method is one option for sleep training depending on your preference.

I did not do that it broke my heart to hear my first cry and I won't be doing it with my Lil girl on the way . everyone is different but  my son has autism and I would not say he is to clingy now he nine and he knows mommy's there if he's crying or having bad dreams so whatever works for you but I couldn't let him just cry .
