Producing twice as much as needed?

Question

So I pump every time he feeds, so about 7 times in 24 hours. I'm producing about 7 oz.  each time I pump and he only eats 4 oz right now. How can I even put my supply so that I only produce as much as he eats?

My daughter is 10 months and I only have about 60oz freezer stash. My supply dropped since she started solids and I’m barely able to pump what she drinks when I’m out. I am terrified I will run out of milk and it keeps me from leaving her with anyone! I WISH I could go back in time to when I produced more and pumped like you do, then deep freeze.  I guess it depends on how long you want to breast feed, but I definitely regret not doing what you’re doing. Freeze as much as you can, while you can is my advice! And if it’s too much, you can always donate! ☺️

I always pumped more than he needed (I am an over supplier).  I donated my excess via Human Milk for Human Babies which you can find a local group on Facebook.  The person you donate to often replaces bags too.

At each pump, could you stop when you get to 6oz? And then a few days later stop when you get to 5oz? If you take less milk out you may convince your body to make less. You could check into donating the excess in the meantime through Human Milk for Human Babies. Good luck mama!

My situation too! I was getting 7-8oz every time I pumped when I pumped every three hours. I started pumping every 4 hours instead and only once over night and my supply hasn’t changed 😂 my freezer is overflowing so I’ve just started dumping the excess down the sink. Hurts me to watch my hard work go down the sink but I’m not sure what else to do as I can’t donate it. Try going every 4 hours instead? It’s made no difference to my supply but at least I have more time in between sessions to do whatever.

I was feeding baby and freezing 35 oz a day at the beginning, then I didn’t change anything and my supply dropped suddenly right around week 8 postpartum. I think I just had a really quick shift from hormone regulation to supply and demand! I’m still freezing about 20oz a day, but it was such a sudden drop it scared me a bit. Luckily, it hasn’t changed at all since then and it’s been about 4 weeks.
