Irregular period

I'm 16 years old and I've had my period for almost four years now, but it's incredibly irregular.

I thought my period was never going to come this time because I was almost three months late, but it finally did. During the time between my periods I ovulate almost everyday and it's almost as heavy as my actual period. Other than the long wait between periods everything else is normal. I'm not itchy and there is no sign of any infection. My period returned last week and ended yesterday, but I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal. I also have never had sex, so I can rule out pregnancy. My mom said it's normal for girls to have irregular periods at first, but I've had it for four years. It's always been like this too. Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense, I just need someone's opinion on this.
