Interracial couples -political drama !!!

I am a black woman engaged to a white man. We’ve been together going on 3 years and very recently we’ve been having heated debates and drama due to the political climate in America.

For a solid year after Trump was elected, I worked for a local government. We had this rule that I didn’t want to talk about politics because my 9-5 revolved around it. Now that I am doing something different for work, it comes up in convo.

THE PROBLEM: he isn’t able to empathize with some of the black issues that are relevant today. For example, he thinks the BLM movement is completely pointless because if “Black people were more kind to police, they wouldn’t get killed”. I didnt realize that unkindness = a death warrent. I was born and raised in the south, so I’ve seen first-hand that it’s far deeper than that.

Besides the point, I think that he only responds this way around his brother. When TJ is around, the conversation tends to always get heated and I end up defending the entire black race. I’m educated and insightful, but I’ve always kept my opinions to myself because they are mine. I respect different options, but this is something I worry about because we want to have children and they will look black.

Should I run? End it? Our relationship is 80% perfect minus these things. This post is a result of yet another heated disagreement- on my birthday dinner.
