How has using a cup affected your period?

I’ve read about many cup users saying that using the cup shortened their period tremendously. One woman claimed the length of her period changing from 7 days to 3-4 days! I’m just wondering if this is as common as it seems. 
Also, I’d love to know the science behind this if anyone knows.

I’ve used a cup for like 5 years. At first I didn’t really notice a change but now I know. My period went from 8 days to 4-5. No where near as heavy. Less painful. Less clots. Switching to the cup was the best thing I’ve ever done

I went from 5 days to 2.5.. barely. Mines mostly spotting by day two. 
When I was a teenager I had 7 day periods until I had surgery for my endometriosis (a laparoscopy) and then it went to 5.

mine went from about 6 days to 3 days. Also, I used to have very very bad cramps, and now they are so manageable that I hardly ever find it necessary to take a pain killer.
