Can progesterone shorten luteal phase?

So, last cycle I started taking progesterone supplements to lengthen my luteal phase which was only about 8 days long or 9 at the most. However, I started spotting 4 days after my trigger shot, only to have a full on period by day 5.

My OB and I thought maybe it was just a fluke, so we tried a higher dose of the progesterone this month. While it at first seemed to be working fine, today at 8 days post trigger, my period is here again. What gives? Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm getting extra scared now that my body is more messed up than I thought and that I will never get pregnant as a result. I'm not seeing a specialist until the 23rd, but now that my period is here, I wish I could move up my appointment....
