What do contractions feel like?

Everyone keeps asking me, “Do you feel any contractions?” And i’m not sure how to respond. I feel like i’ve been having some stomach tightening, which I ruled out to be braxton hicks. Now i’m getting the tightening and a dull pain in my lower back. It doesn’t hurt too bad, definitely not enough to stop me in my tracks. Kinda feels like period cramps. Is that what a contraction feels like? I’m a FTM and 39 weeks  so not sure what to expect. Please help!!

In early labor, I had back pain that were contractions. Im a ftm too (already had my baby) and I didn't know I was having contractions until I was hooked to a monitor and the nurse was telling me that I was contracting every minute. Then the pain increased in my back and hips, when it got stronger I could tell they were contractions.

The period type pain sounds like proper contractions. Doesn’t necessarily mean labour is near though unless you are getting them regularly and strong.

How can you tell if its the menstrual cramping when your baby is pretty active? I'm having a hard time deciphering if its just him moving and causing me cervical/vaginal pain or if its actual contractions.

With my first I had total back pain, some period cramps but my back was horrible.

Those still sound like they may be Braxton Hicks. If they become time-able then I'd say they are contractions. But to be honest you will totally know when it's the real thing
