Should people who have to register as a sex offender as minor, be given the chance to have that title removed?

Question

When I was a freshman in high school there was a boy (junior) who sent out a naked picture of a girl, that he claimed to be me.
He sent this picture out because I refused to go on a date with him. 
Because they never determined whether it was me or not (I never sent a picture of myself when I was that age, I knew it wasn’t), they made him register as a sex offender for “exploiting a minor”.
I can’t help but think how this is effecting his life for something he did when he was 17. 
Although I’m still upset because my reputation was ruined, his was ruined for his entire life.
Do you believe that he should have the chance to correct it?
Do you believe that all minors should be given a chance to correct their behavior as adults?

It would depend on the severity of the offense. 
For the kid from your HS, maybe that can be removed after a certain time. For more serious crimes like molestation, rape, sodomy, etc., definitely no.

My adopted niece was molested by the biological uncle when she was 4. He was a minor, apparently just “curious” and it was washed from his record. I think this is TOTAL BULLSHIT. She can’t erase the memories, why should he?

Depends on the case. In the case like yours where it dosent seem like he’s a danger, just made a stupid teenage mistake, then yes. But for the hard core charges like rape,assault, child porn then no they need to be on it for life because they may still be a danger.

There are cases like this and cases of minors send pictures of themselves to other minors and that lands them on the list. 
Peeing in public can land you on the list. Having sex in your car can land you on the list. Opening your door naked can land you on the list. 
Every cases differs, and some obviously don’t need to be taken off the list, but others should have that chance.

I’m going to agree with everyone saying it depends on the case. Some people wind up on the list just for peeing in a public place.
If the case involved rape, sexual assault, or sexual harassment then no, not at all.

Totally depends on why they got put there. If you raped someone when you were 16 too bad so sad. It should remain forever. Now, my cousin got caught pissing on a tree once and they threatened to put him on the list. Stuff like that is so unfair imo.

Definitely depends on the case. In the example you gave I think he should have a chance. My cousin also, when he was 15 he’s friend sent a bunch of nudes of a girl in there class. She ended up pressing charges against the guy and everyone who had the photos. At the time it all went down, my cousin had turned 16. Now he has ‘possession of child pornography’ on his record.

I was thinking no when I read the question, but after reading through everything I think it should be a case by case basis. I think if the person who was a victim to an offence is ok with it then yes. It may seem weird or stupid but giving someone who had their control taken away, some of it back for something that could be good would be justice in my eyes.

depends. minors sexting are found guilty of child porn which is fucking stupid so if its something like that yeah. if a 8yr molested a 2yr old fuck no.

I think it really depends on the person and the crime that was committed. For instance, my cousin molested a younger family member at like the age of 10 and then molested his niece a few years later. Both girls were much younger than him but because he was charged as a minor, he was able to have his record expunged at 18. He also did not have to be on the registry. For him it looks like he never did anything. I know he’s capable of doing something like this again so I always hope some young single mom doesn’t end up with him and he does something awful to her child. As for something like the boy in high school, technically I think he can get his record expunged also but I don’t think he deserves to be on the sex offender registry for life, as awful and dumb of a decision it was to send that picture.
