Boyfriend left me and his son at his dads house.. is he right to do so?

So me and my boyfriend currently live at his dads house with our son as it’s so hard trying to get our own place where I’m from.. we’ve been trying ever since before our son was born. Anyway, they got into a massive argument.. like putting hands on each-other.. not like fist fighting but grabbing eachother hard enough to leave marks. Well, my boyfriend is the only one with marks. Anyway.. his dad said that he wants him gone in the heat of the moment.. he was so angry he wanted to leave and take us with him at first. We was going to go to my nans but she didn’t have any room. So he decided to leave me and my son here and go stay at his friends house. I’m distraught because he’s saying he’s not coming back and I’ve been begging and begging. Hes saying stuff like he’s not coming back home until we find our own place when he knows full well that’s going to take months and months. He’s saying he can’t let me and my son sleep on some sofa when we can stay here in our own beds. I haven’t stopped crying.. I just don’t understand how he could do this. We are his family too.. why would he leave us? I’m just so angry and upset. Is he right to do this? Or is he being selfish? What would u do in this situation? I’ve poured my heart out asking him to come back.. I understand he’s upset and angry with his dad but I really need him to come back for us 😢 what should I do ?
