Why do college students always want to get drunk

Question

Like I just don’t get it? I’m in college and like everyone around me is always talking about how they can’t wait until Friday when they can go party or how schools almost over and the second it’s done they’re going to celebrate by getting wasted... like why does everyone just want to get trashed all the time? I don’t drink just because I don’t like the taste of anything and like is being drunk that great?

Some people just think you need alcohol to have fun. College is also seen as the time for you to let loose and have as much fun as you can before your life really starts. Personally for me I think being drunk is really fun I’m sooo much happier and idk how to explain it it’s just really fun but I don’t drink really at all. But I see what you’re saying. I don’t need to get messed up all the time to have fun

Its how lots of people socialise and since you can legally drink its kinda like a passage into adulthood. 
As for the taste of it, different drinks taste sweeter than others less spirits more mixers taste better.

It’s a bonding experience as well as a way to relax for a lot of people. I don’t drink, but I do smoke with my friends to chill out after big due dates have passed.

To ease stress and bond with other people. Im a fine arts major and some people do it for creative reasons or to be able to not think about stresses.  That being said I hardly ever  drink And if I do getting drunk is almost never the goal so I also don't really get it. Youre not alone in thinking at all.

A lot of great comments on here! I’d have to agree with all of them and add a lil something. I like to drink here and there, I don’t overdue it and I don’t drink to get “wasted.” it’s good to maintain a balance for me because I work and go to school so much so I mentally need a break from rigid scheduling and information intake to let my mind be creative and let loose. It helps because it’s like a refresh for my brain. I tend to have better conversations when I drink and my layer of inhibitions are gone. Drinking isn’t for everyone and that’s totally fine!  We all have our likes and dislikes.

I drank moderately to have fun, socialize, and loosen up during college. It’s just a time where ppl are free and can explore their wild side while they are in their 20’s with other peers. I don’t drink to get wasted and get trashy. I worked really hard in school and I deserve to do things that makes me laugh and smile on the weekends. Now that I’m not in school, I don’t party at all but still learned to enjoy happy hour because i grew immense anxiety from work, bills, expectations. Nothing like good food and good cheers after a long back breaking day.

I don’t drink either. I’ve only had champagne sometimes. But drinking is a big part of college for a lot of people.
It’s funny though, this guy just said how graduation was wouldn’t matter because he’d be drunk out of his mind.
It’s cheaper to not drink and nicer to your liver.
