When you arrive home, who should say Hi 1st? The person who just arrived or the person who was already at home?

My daughter gets mad because no one says hi to her. She comes home and goes directly to her room, or walks by us  to go to the bathroom.  she says nothing. I told her, she is the one who should being saying Hi  to the rest of us already at home.  what does everyone else think?

Can you just say hello to her whenever? I don’t understand why it’s even an issue at all. If she’s asking you to say hello to her when you get home, just say it.

I guess it depends on how ulyou raised her? I have always said hi to my husband and my kids the moment They walk in the door. my parents and grandparents always said hi to the person walking in the door. My parents still do of course when I visit. That's just how we were raised. However, my best friend says hi when she walks through the door regardless if someone is saying it first or not. That was the way she was raised. There is really no right or wrong in this situation. I think you just need to compromise with your daughter because,  like someone said above she probaby just wants to be acknowledged.

sometimes my daughter says it as soon as she opens the door, but otherwise I'll say it to her followed by the "how was school today". I feel she shouldn't have to say it first. you should want to talk to her when she gets home.

I actually never really thought about it. With my family it just comes out we don’t sit there and have a cowboy standoff situation.. “who’s gone say it first?”

But I’d say the person coming it. Just to make their presence known.

I don’t think it’s a should, it’s just a habit that forms. In my house my SO and my son say Hi to me when they come home, and on the rare occasion they’re already home when I get home then they’re still the ones to say Hi to me. Your daughter probably just wants to feel noticed, like confirmation that yes they do care I came back home today. Being a kid is tough.

There isn't any rule. You say hi if you want to. Don't say hi if you don't want to.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I grew up saying hi first to whomever walked in the door. However, I've dated people in the past who felt the opposite- and would get offended if they were already home and whoever walked in the door didn't say hi. I think it's something to communicate and to be aware of, but I don't think one way is more 'correct' or proper.

Think she just wants to feel welcomed and like someone is paying attention to her. With my stepdad it’s the other way around. He’ll be home and my sister comes home and goes to her room. He gets offended and hurt that she doesn’t acknowledge him.
