23 +2, short cervix, “modified bed rest”

Cori • Momma to one girl (14 years), and one boy (2 years), and new baby boy due in August!

I have a short cervix this pregnancy due to a LEEP (procedure) I had on my cervix after my son was born, about a year and a half ago. Normal cervix length is 3cm during pregnancy, mine is currently at 1.3cm. While that is quite a bit shorter than a doctor would like to see, my cervix remains closed (no dilation), which is good. The rest of my body and the rest of this pregnancy are very healthy. However, for precaution, some limitations have been set: No exercise, no running, no lifting and no sex (so with drinking wine and coffee also out of the question, basically all of my favorite things are gone 😄😭)! I can still go about most mild/moderate activities: short walks, shopping, cooking, light chores, etc. The specialist calls this “Modified Bedrest”. I am also taking progesterone suppositories (yup, right up the hoo-haw) every night in hopes that a concentrated dose of the progesterone hormone will help grow some length to my 1.3cm. My doctor is optimistic, and says success rate is high, especially for women who have had healthy pregnancies otherwise (I’ve had 2 full term babes). Still, a pregnant momma can’t help but worry! I go in for a cervical ultrasound once a week, so I can really only follow the guidelines laid out for me, pray, and take it week by week. 🤹🏻‍♀️

Just thought I would share my story just in case another momma searches “modified bedrest” or “short cervix” like I did! 😄💁🏻‍♀️
