Soo... in school this week (9 grade) we've been learning about sex and 'choosing the best' and at the end there was this thing you could sign pledging not to have sex before marriage. i didn't sigh it and a lot of people think I'm like, a slut or something now. What do you guys think about it?

Now a days it’s rare that people choose to wait for marriage. You could have 50 sexual relationships before marriage, it does NOT make you a slut. What you do with your vagina is your business

That is ridiculous that they’d put you guys on the spot like that. Everyone has a different upbringing and view on things. If you feel you’re ready before getting married, then go for it. As long as you’re in an age where you can consent, and you’re safe about it, why not?

Also, I’d be willing to bet there’s more people than you think that have signed that “pledge” that have already had intercourse. Also, calling people a “slut” is very 2008 - totally irrelevant. That’s so messed up. They should be done teaching this abstinence shit because it’s not realistic. Sooooo many people have sex before marriage and still get married and live a happy healthy life. If you plan on having sex be educated and be safe. It’s your decision and you should absolutely not feel ashamed if you have sex before marriage. I think of sex like aging. It’s going to happen to EVERYONE. At some point.

I think that your classmates are wrong for calling you names like that and that you shouldn’t feel bad about not signing it. Some of the people that did sign it probably won’t even up hold it. Don’t worry about it.

Choosing when to have sex is a personal choice everyone should get to make without feeling pressured. You shouldn’t be pressured to wait until after marriage, nor should you feel pressured to have sex before. There is no wrong choice, it just depends on when a person feels ready and mature enough to have sex with the right person at the right time for them. No one should think you’re a slut for it, as most of them will probably engage in sex before marriage anyway as they get older. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Just listen to what you think is right for you.

I don’t think you should sign something you don’t believe in, and it definitely doesn’t make you a ‘slut’, but I do firmly believe in waiting even though it’s the ‘unpopular’ thing to do. I believe in this because of health reasons, emotional stability, and religious beliefs - so just think about it and what you believe in!

I grew up very religious so I know what it’s like to be shamed and to shame others. Sadly it took me until I entered college (I’m a senior now) to break away from that mentality and realize that it’s NONE’S BUSINESS whether you have sex before marriage or not. You do what you feel comfortable with. If you wanna do it then do it or if you want to wait then wait. I use to think that I wanted to wait but that wasn’t me thinking; that was just me being told what to do. I want sex and I’ll do it as soon as I find someone I’m comfortable with.
