My sister in law had mention if I’m not mistaken she might have Ariel the mermaid as her theme for her daughters birthday. My daughter will be turning 2 I also wanted the mermaid theme for my daughter and I’m the type of person that doesn’t really speak on what things I’m going to Until that day comes. So when things like this happens when your thinking of the same thing and the other person says the same thing but they say it first it’s like Fuck I don’t want them to think I’m copying them just because they said it first but I was also thinking about it just the only difference was I never mention it. Well I have been trying to look for other ideas but honestly either I’m not a fan or just don’t like them I really want the mermaid but I don’t want my sister in law thinking im copying her which is not my intension to do. Plus my baby is really small still to be likeing a character which would be easier for me to pick but nothing really catches her attention. Ahh idk what to do. Her party is not til August and my sister in laws daughter is not til December.  😫

You could try Disney Princesses theme. It has Ariel as one of the princesses. So you’d still have your mermaid but doing something different at the same time.

If she already told you she's planning an Ariel theme months in advance of get daughter's birthday, it's obviously important to her if she's planning it this far out. Having the mermaid theme isn't worth the likelihood of hurt feelings and tension, whether her feelings are "right or wrong" or she's entitled to claim the theme we could all debate for hours, but at the end of the day she chose this theme so many months away from the party and told you about it, her feelings will likely be hurt right or wrong.  In this scenario I think you need to choose something different, sorry.

if you want another idea, you could to for the Sweet theme and just do bright colors, candies, and sprinkles.

I would talk to her about it! It depends on the type of person she is, but that would not bother me whatsoever (them having the same party theme that is). They’re little girls, there’s limited things that they like!! That being said, does your daughter like Elsa and the movie Frozen? That would be an adorable party theme for December!

Girl, I was in the same situation lol, was gonna do that Unicorn theme for my baby shower, had already planned it even before my baby's gender was revealed, my brothers gf had Unicorn for BS, then my best friend had the unicorn theme for her BS, & then my husbands sister had it for her daughter BD so, yeah that was out of the question, so I decided Mermaid, & then my cousin decided Mermaid for BS, & then a friend of mine decided on mermaid for daughters BD & another friend did mermaid for daughters BD, So now my baby shower is in 11 days & I've switched the them so many times I'm just like fck it lol. I'm doing a Safari theme, no time to change it since it's around the corner now.

August & December is still a LONG ways from now. I would not be stressing over it. Kids & adults change their mind so much. & it’s just a theme. Just talk to her & ask her if she minds that you do Ariel theme too if you’re worried. If one party is in August & another in December, not too many people will remember that the August party was Ariel too. Like I said it’s just a party theme & you definitely shouldn’t be getting too worked up about it.
