Do babies struggle with pooping after starting solids?
My son started solids a couple of weeks ago. Before this he was EBF. So far we have introduced him to oatmeal cereal, pears, sweet potatoes and peas. He LOVES pears and sweet potatoes. Not a huge fan of peas or plain oatmeal cereal. He’s been eating at least an ounce a day (depends on the food) and he’s had some thicker, more pasty BMs and one very solid BM. My question is: I know it’s normal for EBF babies to go a day or two or even a week without pooping, but is this normal when they start solids, or should I be concerned if he doesn’t have a BM every day? He seems to constantly be struggling to poop. When I’m nursing him he starts grunting and squirming and tensing his abdominal muscles and will refuse to nurse. A couple times I pedaled his legs and tucked them up to his chest and he finally passed a lottttt of poop. I tried that today and he was grunting and straining but didn’t poop. Yesterday he didn’t have a BM. I’ve been pushing nursing a lot and trying to give him high fiber foods. Is he constipated? Is there anything else I can do to help? Should I hold off on solids for a few days?
