Are pop musicians independently talented or created by the music industry?

Question

Not talking about those timeless bands and the little ones you love that  no one else will probably ever know about; rather, the ones on pop stations that you can't escape from at the mall. Are they born or made?

They're "created" to make money, usually, but that doesn't mean they aren't talented. 
For example, One Direction. Created on a TV show, Simon Cowell has made millions from them, their whole management and record label and whoever else is alllll about the money. But they really can sing. They are talented.

Lady GaGa is an AMAZING Singer.  Seriously amazing. I honestly didn't even know How good she was until she did the sound of music thing. So I said it's a little of both.

Many are created for a certain genre (boy bands, one example) and made to sound good after recording.
Some really do have talent, but man, I can sing with the right people producing me.
