Owed child support

Rh

Hypothetical situation to help get across my point:

Let’s say a mother or father is imprisoned and unable to pay their child support while their kid(s) are young (below the age of 18), of course when she or he gets out, it’s still going to be owed and they’ll be expected to pick up paying where they left off. At this point in time the children are now adults (above the age of 18).

Do you think the owed child support should go to the mother/father that raised them or to the actual children themselves since the parent is no longer taking care of them as they’re now out of the house and on their own. Do you think it should be split between the parent and the child. What are y’alls opinions on this?

This isn’t affecting me directly, I just saw it being argued on another social media site and I’m curious as to what *actual* moms and dads think.
