Tell my parents?

Hey all, so me and my boyfriend have been dating for a few weeks now and we already feel deeply for each other. Last night we were talking about how I would tell my parents about us, problem is I’m 17 and he’s 20 (recently turned) and I’m just afraid of how my parents will react. How do you all think I should tell them? When do you think a good time is? Also here’s a pic of us.. he makes me really happy and I would hate for my parents to not let us continue dating...

Go for it and be honest. At this age, it probably feels like a large gap between you two but imagine in another years if you’re still together. 18-21 doesn’t seem to be of as big as a gap.

I agree with Anna, do NOT go for it. You guys look super cute & happy together, but you said it yourself, it’s only been a few weeks. Give it a couple months & if things are still looking great then go ahead & tell them girl! But right now, considering you’re only 17, your parents could very well trip out. But if they see that you’ve been with him for a few months & your happy, he  respects you & is treating your well? They’re a whole lot more likely to accept you two. Just be a little patient, girl.

That’s not even a big age gap but to legal eyes it’s a big deal I was 17 my bf was 33 met him hostessing and I didn’t tell my mom she found out later by herself she was sooo mad! But after I turned 18 and we continued together after “hating him” and threatening him to the “police” she met him and loved him now she gives him hugs and asks about him all the time. Everything takes time I don’t blame my mom for not agreeing to the age difference. But long story short y’all aren’t even 5 years apart. Wait till your 18 or until y’all dated atleast 6 months. Your parents will always support you takes time but they will.  Love has no limits. Just make sure he treats you well.

I met my fiance when I was 17 & he was 21. We are 30 & 35 now. We immediately fell in love. So we told my parents. I told them he was 18, but he told them he was 21. They liked his honesty & how he treated me. So they gave us the okay. 💓

I’m almost 31. When I was 16 my parents let me date a 19 yo that was almost 20. Looking back, I wish they hadn’t. I was too young and he was at a completely different stage in life than I was. Not to mention it was illegal. Now that I have a daughter of my own and have thought of this same instance, there’s no way I would allow it. Every family is different and there’s nothing to say that you guys won’t make it for the long run and live happily ever after but I would also say that if you have any hesitation then there must be a valid reason driving that feeling. You wouldn’t be unsure if you thought it was completely ok. For me, it’s a total “I wish I had known then what I know now” situation. Also, hiding it may only make the situation worse if you already think they’ll disapprove of the age difference.

I was 16 and by bed had just turned 20 when i told my family. I have 4 brothers who were all really upset and my mom wasn’t Happy about it. My dad thought he was my age because he knows his dad. After 5 years he finally found out how old he is. 😂
