Should I Refuse my 3 Hour Glucose Test?

I took the one hour glucose and PASSED with flying colors. My doctor requires everyone to take both regardless of outcome. I feel like this is not necessary. I've seen some women refuse their glucose test, and I was wondering how that went for them. 
*I am overweight, but have never had problems with my blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. I also have not gained any weight during this pregnancy.

How far along are you? I’ve never heard of this. What’s the point of taking the one hour, then, if you’re still made to take the 3 hour anyway? It sounds like he’s milking the insurance, to me personally. Standard of care is a one hour around 28 weeks and then the 3 hour if you fail. I refused the one hour (the drink has horrible chemicals) and tested my blood sugar 4 times a day for two weeks. I had no issues and my midwife had no problem with that. You can refuse anything you want! I’d ask about what benefits there are to taking both and have him show you DATA to back up his claim. Spoiler alert, there isn’t any. If he threatens to drop you as a patient, I’d find a new doctor. Who knows what else he will unnecessarily try to force on you during labor/delivery that isn’t evidence-based if he’s already doing this during your pregnancy.

take the test because things can change .I would be safe and take it .cause gestational diabetes is not to be messed with .

The 1 hour is actually harder to pass than the 3 hr so it makes no sense to me. Why not just not do the 1 hour then if the dr will make everyone do the 3 hr anyway?  Maybe they could have you repeat the 1 hour in case of late onset GD but I wouldn't do the 3 hr if I passed the 1 hour.

Ava, obviously you should do what you feel comfortable with, but just know you have options and also the right to refuse ANYTHING. Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you give up your boldly autonomy and have to just me a yes man to your doctor. Unfortunately, many practitioners do not follow evidence-based practices and not everything they do is in the best interest of Moms and babies. Ask what the risks and benefits are to everything and if they threaten you for not following along with their processes, say goodbye and find someone that’s supportive. I would be really interested to see if this guy does other things that are not backed by evidence (routine episiotomies, induction for non-medically necessary reasons (a suspected “big” baby without underlying complications is not one of them), insisting on constant monitoring during labor if there’s no issues (this does NOT improve birth outcomes). I’d also be interested in his csection rate. Just some things to think about—I firmly believe all of us deserve evidence-based care without feeling pressured or bullied into unnecessary interventions that are only a convenience for the doctor/nurse/insurance. This turned into a book, sorry.

If you’re overweight, I’d recommend taking to just to be 100% safe. You can do ultimately what you feel is best, but I’d always trust your doctor unless you have another reason not to. I want to refuse mine, I’m recovering from anorexia and I’ve had panic attacks over the thought of drinking that much sugar, but I’m doing it anyway because he told me he’s not comfortable just skipping it even though I’m a healthy weight (now, was previously under) and have no history to indicate risk whatsoever. 🤷‍♀️

I heard you can refuse it and ask your dr for an at home meter. You can track on your blood sugar at home for a couple weeks instead of the 3 hour test. The meter is pricey, but worth not getting sick!

My dr had me do 2 one hour tests because of being overweight. One was in the near the end of first trimester. Maybe just to get a baseline and make sure nothing was going on. I’m glad she had me do it since complications can come up at any point.

I did the same thing have no history of medical problems then boom got really sick sometimes baby can make your blood sugar sky rocket out if no where and gestation diabetes trust me there two different test I almost lost my baby because of this it's better safe than sorry inregretted refusing that test
